My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

Nestled away off the beaten track in the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada you'll find the small fishing community of Bridgeport. In this neck of the woods, fishing is the prime source of livelihood. Since the Canadian Government announced the cod moratorium in July 1992, people of this community and others like it have had to find other species to fish. In recent years the Government has opened what they call the "Food Fishery" where people are permitted to catch cod for short periods of time in the summer and fall - enough to store for food for the winter. I recently visited Bridgeport during one of the Food Fishery three week spans and participated in the fun. Bridgeport is about 4 hours drive from my hometown.
I used to work as a legal assistant but felt that was sucking the life out of me, so a little over 3 years ago, I changed jobs and bought a camera. Now life is a lot more fun! Photography has changed my life and provides me with a vehicle of continuous learning as well as visual pleasure.
I am applying to win this scholarship because I would love to have the opportunity to go to Bhutan and learn under a professional photographer. This is the stuff that dreams are made of. I think you should pick me because I am easy to get along with, eager to learn, will willingly lug gear around in exchange for the opportunity to travel to a far away place and learn from one of the best!
