“Bees can sense when one is afraid” says the beekeeper. “They don’t sting me as much as they did in the beginning. We are becoming friends. My dream is not to wear the gloves and head protection. When this day will come, I will be sure that not only I became attached to my bees, but my bees got attached to me.”

Lithuanian summer afternoon. In front of you is an old, wooden hive- home for around 50,000 bees. Don’t be afraid. Come closer. Stop and listen. Calming bee buzzing sound will reach your ears, and if you are brave enough to come even nearer, you will be able to smell the gentle, sweet scent of honey.

Son is observing the beekeeper while he is uncapping the honeycomb cells by hand using a simple eating fork. There are many things to learn, as one day he will have to take over the beekeeping. Honey harvesting is an important tradition, passed from one generation to another.
