My Scholarship entry - Paradise Lost

My name is Ana. I am Colombian. I have a degree in Biology from JSU in Alabama and I am studying Photography in Bogota. My passion is Life itself. I am a very empathic person who feels the drive to understand as much as I can from the world by direct contact. When I get a good shot I feel instant gratification but deeply I want to capture light in dusted corners of society. Photographers although unable to change directly what they photograph, may bring about shifts on a much greater scale, influencing collective memory. I want to make part of that influence.
In the “new world” we have a big problem with identity and with knowing our roots. Still today we discriminate our own ancestors and the afro and native lieanges still alive in our territory. How come many have no knowledge of the minorities present in our country or the languages they speak?
I would gain too much from this experience being mentored by Jason Edwards who is not only an amazing photographer but part of National Geographic. I know I can unlearn mistakes and improve greatly with guidance because I have the heart and soul for this. I want to win so I can give back realities that go unnoticed to my continent.
