My Scholarship entry - The Novice Festival: Child to monk in Burma

This passion for life through the lens is new for me. Eighteen months ago I graduated university, left modernity and safety behind, and set out on a one year solo adventure through Asia. Beginning in Nepal and India, I began to photograph. The process felt natural to me. I started to see the world in images, and as I continued through South East Asia, Mongolia and Siberia, my passion only intensified. When I arrived home, I had to seriously think about what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. But there was no question, I wanted to photograph, to write and to continue to explore this incredible planet we call home.
I hope my photographs portrays a sense of place, a feeling of colour and vitality, a moment in time captured. I want to show others the beauty and diversity of our planet, the people it holds, the spirit it ignites.
Being mentored my Jason would be a dream come true. I have so much to learn in photography, I want to be a better storyteller, I want to learn technicalities, but more than that, I want to see what it's like to work in the field on assignment with a National Geographic Photographer.
Hopefully one day it will be my future.
