My Scholarship entry - Viva Cuba!

My name is Andrea and I live on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia on Canada's east coast. Cape Breton is rich in culture and history and is said to be one of the most scenic islands on Earth. Being surrounded by such natural beauty combined with the intriguing stories passed down through the generations inspired me to write about and photograph my beautiful island. Over time, my travels took me beyond my backyard and to the rest of Canada and a number of countries including The United States, Mexico, Cuba and Costa Rica. These travels inspired me to write about the cultures and landscapes I encountered on those trips. I've had a number of articles published in publications around North America and I also started a blog in 2009. From time to time, I write content for various travel companies. While my writing is taking off, there is one thing missing; good quality photos to go with it. I take a lot of pictures and consider some of them to be good but I feel it is something I could improve on and that is why I feel I should be chosen. Travel is one of the most important things we can do and my goal is to inspire as many people as possible to embark on their own adventures.
