My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

USA | Saturday, June 29, 2013 | 5 photos

I'm currently going to school for photography and will be a junior next year. I embarked on an extremely rewarding project this last year in Kenya. I travelled to Nakuru, Kenya for 3 months to teach destitute children photography. I brought 8 cameras over for my class of 24 students. I worked with Melon Chosen Community that tended to 450 students. I taught them the basics of photography through examples of world renown photographers. I later came back to the United States and displayed their work as well as mine in Aspen, Colorado to fundraise for their school and students that couldn't afford to continue onto high school. I became interested in photography when I was backpacking for a year in Australia and Southeast Asia. I have travelled a lot since finishing high school and know that I want to incorporate my photography into my travels. I believe that I would be an excellent choice for this scholarship based on my experience and passion within photography. I believe I have a strong eye, but as well I want to use that eye to make meaningful and powerful stories that can provoke change. I believe that granted this opportunity I could take my photography to a higher level.
