Travel Photography Scholarship 2012entry

Cambodia | Tuesday, November 13, 2012 | 5 photos

Charles Bukowski once said “find what you love and let it kill you” I’m lucky I’ve found it. Photography is not just my passion, it’s my purpose. I aspire to explore the world as a travel photographer and photojournalist. I want to see and capture the raw beauty and devastation of the world, and show people not just what they want to see but what they need to see. I have just finished my commerce degree but know that if I follow down that path any longer I’ll be denying my true life purpose. I’m bursting with projects and ideas but know I have a lot to learn before I can earn my place in this reputable and competitive field. I have recently raised enough money to restore sight to 100 Nepalese locals and am currently saving to follow my money overseas and visually document the changes it makes. My second major at uni was Cultural Studies, I love learning about different ways of living and fully immersing myself in a culture. I’m a highly ambitious person and believe the two most valuable human qualities are passion and compassion. What I love most about photography is that it provides a powerful platform for increased cultural understanding and for positive social change.
