My Scholarship entry - Lewis

Hi guys, My name is Alasdair or Ally for short. I'm currently an electrician and part time fire-fighter and before that I spent 6 years as an infantry soldier in the British Army. I was born and brought up on the beautiful Hebridean island of Lewis, and I've always had a love of the outdoors and my time in the army helped me to gain a range of fieldcraft to help me enjoy my outdoor time even more. Since the advent of digital cameras, facebook, instagram etc. I, like everyone else have become an amateur photographer. At first it was just something I enjoyed doing but as I've come to understand a little more about photography and how to compose shots, I've become fascinated with taking pictures of nature, especially landscapes, and trying to capture the beauty that I'm seeing to share with others. It's definitely made me more appreciative and observant of what is around me. I would love to be able to travel to different countries to visit and take more beautiful pictures to share with the world.
