The Forgotten Land

My Scholarship entry - A Journey Through Time in a Lost Country

I took my first trip out of the Western world right before my 17th birthday, where I went solo to Nepal and India for 4 months. This journey changed my life and opened my eyes to the myriad of possibilities in the grand expanse of the world. It also opened my eyes to the possibility of story telling through photography, and how an entire culture, landscape, or life can be captured and frozen in time through the art of photojournalism. This trip rejuvenated me upon return and I immediately began saving for my way back. Recently I went to Laos, where I ventured off the beaten track and explored some fascinating areas of the country as well as Thailand and Hong Kong. The response to these pictures has been overwhelming and I believe photography/photojournalism is both my calling, and where my heart truly resides. It is because of this that I am applying for this project, for the chance to be part again of the collective narrative of the great travel photographers before me.
