I am not a strong speaker – I express myself better visually & musically. Taking up photography was a newfound way of expressing myself, allowing me to communicate my experiences. It feels like the world is used to hearing but not listening, watching but not seeing. I would like to encourage people to see again by bringing stories to them through images that can make them stop & think.
Having done 2 contracts as a cruise ship videographer I have been blessed with the opportunity to see amazing places & I travel as much as I can whenever I can. On the ship I work with photographers who have lost their passion for the art & it saddens me, especially when we find ourselves in the Pacific islands or the last frontiers of Alaska. If I could only learn to effectively document my experiences through photos… WOW.
I admire photos that can reveal more than what lies within the frame - the ‘smaller’ stories that help to tell the ‘bigger’ story. To be able to tell a story this way would be amazing, & this opportunity can help me change the way I see things to be able to convey stories though photos. They say a picture is worth a thousand words & I want to learn how to make every one count.
