My Scholarship entry - A collection of moments behind the lens

Australia | Friday, October 31, 2014 | 5 photos

I have always had a fascination with the unknown, the wild, and the wonderful. Since I could see and crawl I have been attracted to nature - I was forever breaking free of my parents grasp as a toddler and running into swamps and woods (it nearly cost me my life). Since I could talk, I've been advocating for the preservation of that nature, and since 2012 I've picked up a camera to try document my surroundings and tell a story. In my spare moments when I am not working as a Speech Pathologist, I find myself researching and reading up on the beauty around me. Landscapes, naturescapes (I've totally made that up but you stick an animal in its natural habitat, and that's what I'm talking about!), and anything off the beaten track. If there's a road unknown, it's the first one I will go down; better still there need not be a path initially! For me this would be the experience of a lifetime, and one in which I would treasure for the rest of my life and hope to share with the world. My friends keep telling me to stop wasting my time in an office and get out and document the world, and I have jokingly said that given the opportunity I would love to one day work, even freelance for National Geographic or Lonely Planet in writing, blogging and photographing the wonderful world around us! The best things in life are free, and I am determined to fly half way around the world to showcase the beauty of it. I just want to learn and discover, my planet, myself, and any stories I hear along the way.
