My Scholarship entry - Southern Africa in 5 pictures

South Africa | Friday, October 24, 2014 | 5 photos

Travelling is a great passion for one reason. I love to see and enjoy different peoples. Capturing a moment where a new friend is entwined with his/her environment, gives me hope that there is peace somewhere in every person's world. Meeting someone of another language, class, religion, and lifestyle, loving them for that brief moment and receiving their welcome into their life for that moment, gives me hope that the peoples of our country (and for that matter, the world) can live in harmony. Our minds may never encompass how different others' worlds are, but an image of someone's eyes, face and hands tell stories no words can formulate. This is the passion that motivates every picture I take. Yes I want to be a technically good photographer, but if the image I take can bring my emotions of the meeting with my subject to my audience, I have succeeded.

I am an educated but humble person wanting to learn from every opportunity and wanting to teach to others. I am a privileged middle-class woman but I live humbly and cannot afford much travelling or expensive photography equipment /education. But I love what I do when I do it. And I grab every chance I get to excel. All 5 pictures were taken at age 18-19 when I traveled on mission trips.
