The Dusty Smiles of Africa

My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

South Africa | Monday, June 3, 2013 | 5 photos

I am a journalist at heart, a passionate story teller with a deep love for digging a little deeper to find some beauty in my everyday news coverage. I spent my very first bonus three years ago on a Canon 550D - a camera I have been dreaming of for years. This, I can truly say, is the best thing I have ever bought for myself.
I am a television news reporter, but divide my days in getting the facts, and then capturing what I see behind me.
The theme "Dusty Smiles of Africa" was born when I really started traveling for work. For some reason, I always end up in the places and covering stories where people are really struggling. But as I started making friends and showing these people that I am exactly like they are, no matter our different circumstances, I became overwhelmed by the way they always smiled. So I started searching for those smiles...and I have never stopped.
I love photography. That's it. I love traveling and I love the idea of capturing the beauty of my world.
A job on television is great, but creating art out of art (nature and people) is something unexplainable... and to be given the chance to do it permanently - wow - that would be GREAT!
