My Scholarship entry - Sri Lanka: The Jewel of the Indian Ocean

I'm a 19 year old university student who annually contemplates spending her tuition money on plane tickets. Recently I have returned from a trip to a place I never even dreamed I would visit; Sri Lanka. The trip really opened my eyes to the fact that there is a whole new world of experiences, cultures, foods and adventures to have, and I want to have them all. I want to ride camels, scale mountains, bungee jump, dive wrecks, and everything in between! I have always loved to travel but played it relatively safe by visiting places similar to home, yet now I feel ready to explore. Going to Sri Lanka pushed my boundaries as it was as foreign as can be, but I loved it. I loved meeting people who knew a life so different from mine and I loved being forced to try new foods and live a different way. After a month in a completely new environment I returned home with a greater appreciation for the little things that my home, home. However within a month or so I began to feel that itch again, the itch to hop on a plane and touch down in a new land. I'm not sure what I want to do with the rest of my life professionally, but I know that I will do my utmost best to travel, adventure and explore.
