This scholarship would help me continue the adventurous, slightly rebellious career path I've been pursuing. For the past few years, I have been a mild-mannered print journalist, traveling around the United States, Canada and other countries writing about economics and business. But something was missing.

I found myself spending more time shooting video and taking photos than writing my stories -- especially on recent assignments as close as Ferguson, Missouri and as far as Boko Haram country in Nigeria.

A few weeks ago, I took the plunge to quit my job and pursue my dream of being a documentary filmmaker. This film is an example of the kind of thing I hope to do, and this mentorship would confirm my great leap into the visual world.
