Kiwi Trail My travails doesn't require a companion but I got one anyway!

Xochimilco canals, chido!

MEXICO | Sunday, 3 January 2010 | Views [308]

"Puedes chupar, llorar, fumar, comer, y coquetiar. Puedes hacer lo que te da las ganas."~ un Mexicano.

You can drink, cry, smoke, eat and flirt. You can do whatever you feel like.~ a Mexican.

The last time I went to the Xochimilco canals was with my sister but she didn’t appreciate and we just hired a man to take us on a trainjera, a pirogue. This time, I went with a few Mexicans I met at the hostel, one of them had a car so it was a different experience over all: One, I didn’t have to pay 140 pesos for an hour’s ride and two, since it was a bigger crowd, I ate, I drank, and had so much more fun.

To get to the canals…

From the Zocalo, take the Tasqueña train to Embarcadero (not Xochimilco) and walk a few blocks down to los embarcaderos. Although Mexico City is huge, don't worry about getting lost, there are plenty of signs and friendly Mexicans who'll direct you to the place; just say soh-chee-meel-ko (Xochimilco as pronounced)? And someone will show you the way. The train ride cost 3 pesos, about 35 cents.
