When I moved to a rural community in British Columbia from Toronto last year, I was warned that I might encounter some homophobic attitudes. I decided to interview people from different walks of life to investigate these perceived attitudes in more depth. My local encounters exposed me to the diversity of experiences existing within every community, no matter how small.
I work as a freelance video editor, and have edited several short and feature length documentaries for emerging independent filmmakers. I have directed one short documentary prior to this one, but this is my first solo project.
My ambition as a documentary filmmaker is to experiment with new approaches to documenting experiences while creating thought provoking stories. The scholarship would provide me with the mentorship I need to guide me in my development as a filmmaker, and bring me to a fascinating cultural and natural environment in which to learn.
