My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

I come from a multicultural background and I love adventure, nature and photography. I have thoroughly enjoyed traveling to almost 40 countries, though I worry that many cultures and natural ecosystems are under threat. Now that I am free from an office job, I want to use photography to communicate to people just how beautiful and diverse our planet is so to hopefully influence their actions for the better, and also to capture the way of life in many societies now as a record for future generations.

Inspired by the images from a photojournalist I met backpacking in Africa, a year later I purchased an SLR assuming that the bigger the camera the better my photos would be. I was wrong. I had a lot to learn. After some reading and a few years of practice, my photos are significantly better though I am still very critical of them. I know I still have a lot more to learn. I want this scholarship because it means an opportunity to learn from one of the best photographers in the world. I want to see how he sets up his equipment, how he treats the light, how he makes his images so great. To do that while exploring the unique setting of Greenland is something I could have never dreamed of.
