In my senior year at New York University, I enrolled in a yearlong Video Production and Activism course, in which students work with local organizations to produce videos for their causes. Working with War Resisters League, I became involved with its counter-recruitment campaign and began interviewing homeless veterans. Duwon’s story is just one of many incredible “local encounters” I had during this production.
I also interned with Josh Aronson, an Academy Award-nominated human rights documentary maker. Although I had experienced many remarkable film classes and internships, working one-on-one with Josh gave me more skills, knowledge and insight than I ever expected. I quickly noticed countless fulfilling aspects of producing non-fiction material and became passionate about pursuing a career in documentary making.
After studying abroad and witnessing innumerable stories, I’m fresh out of NYU and want to take my skills out into the world to make a difference in the lives of my subjects and viewers. Having recently started a documentary production company, I’m working on extending my involvement to more adventurous, worldwide subject matter. Obviously, the opportunity to work in Arnhem Land would provide the best education I could ask for and fit perfectly with my passions and goals.
