Do you remember your first human touch?  Your first steps?  Your first words?

Alas, these memories are irretrievable to us all.

But the sensation can still be attained later in life.  The first time you say something to a stranger in a foreign language and are understood--no pointing at dictionary entries, no puzzled hesitation, no stumbling repetitions.  You just say it and they answer and you understand the answer and you have been involved in a human miracle.
