Two Years in Iraq

My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

USA | Wednesday, November 28, 2012 | 5 photos

Hello,
My name is Adam Gillespie. And I've been doing photography pretty much my entire life. I come from a long line of photographers, and am in the process of handing the family trait down to my five year old son. I recently separated from the U.S. Military after 10 years of service and I am now studying photography at my local college. My dream is to become a photojournalist and become a war photographer. With the Army I did two tours of duty into Iraq. During both of my deployments I documented as many as my experiences as I could with my camera. When I got home, I was lucky enough to be chosen as the first student at my school to have a solo show in its art gallery, where I used my photographs from Iraq in it. The artist reception for it also set the school record for attendance.
I think I would be perfect for this opportunity because I have the drive and ambition to be the absolute best photographer I can be. In all the photography courses I've taken there have been other students more naturally talented than me, but never a harder worker. I also have experience working with other cultures. Photography is my life, and working with Nat-Geo would be huge for my career.
