Photos: My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and could say, “I used everything you gave me.”
~ Erma Bombeck

Being raised in a very protective and conservative family, going off to university in the USA despite all the hindrances, befriending some of the most remarkable individuals I have ever met, has exposed me to multi-cultures and my life has been full of remarkable experiences that have made me the woman I am today.
However, despite the achievements I have had I still felt that I was missing something. There was this need to explore an avenue of art which I probably never tapped into. Painting became a significant hobby, but the missing part of the puzzle was still elusive. I was progressing well but the feeling of discontentment was always simmering beneath the layers of success and so I decided to move back to Pakistan.
One day I bought myself a small camera and as I looked at that first image I had captured, I felt the missing piece of puzzle fall into place. Although, my career as an interior designer has been enriching, I am seeking to further enrich my experience as a designer by exploring new and challenging opportunities of self expression.
Visual imagery to me is the best form of expression. Be it a simple painting, drawing or photography; it independent of words to give it the desired meaning or expression. It’s simply a depiction of what the artist felt when he or she conceive it. Visual images have the power to bypass language barriers. So armed with my pretty, pink Cybershot® I head out to capture the world in visual images.
I once read a quote by Paulo Coelho, “When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.” I want to go to Africa on this photography scholarship, experience and learn everything it has to offer and one day make photography a profession.
