Four years ago,my family and I decided to drive down from Bolivia-Brasil.Imagine being confined in a car packed ALL THE WAY with your family for four days.To take on a trip like this, you gotta have a lot of love, complicity, and partnership. We survived on snacks and stopped only for gas.We weren’t using a GPS because the maps of Bolivia and Paraguay couldn't be downloaded,so we were paper mapping this trip.We finally reached the boarder with Paraguay and all there was to be seen was a MASSIVE line of trucks waiting to go through documentation. We were the only crazy family car in line,so the drivers kindly let us go to first place in line. The Paraguayan documentation was a catch;a small house with old computers,no one was around. The truck drivers had been waiting there for DAYS.The problem:no power to turn on the computers.A driver sympathized with our situation, and helped us by taking out gas from his truck to the generator.Meanwhile, my dad went to talk to the person supposed to stamp the documents. They were barbecuing as if there were no one waiting for them.A while later, one of them decided to help and did the documents for us.The next gas station wasn't going to come up for a while, so we filled the tank with 2 gallons of gas we brought with us.When our gas light went on,we headed to a gas pumper on a random man's backyard in a village. He charged $100 dollars to fill up half the tank, and as our only resource, we payed. We stopped in a small town to rest. The closest thing we could find was a creepy house with bed sheets looking like they hadn't been washed in years. They had no electricity and the shower only had cold water. At 5:30am,we were ready to go, as we still needed to get our passports stamped. In a small house on the road,a middle-aged lady came out half asleep and wearing her pj’s,and stamped everything. As we reached civilization, the first thing we spotted was..MCDONALD'S!I savored a Big Mac as if it were the last meal of my life.My parents decided we could make it to Argentina and cross the boarder to Brasil that same day.We arrived at Posadas late at night, and needed to take a ferry across the Uruguay River, but it was already closed. We checked in a bed and breakfast with a clean room and warm shower.Best.Feeling.Ever.We rose up early and headed to the ferry. We had FINALLY arrived in Brasil, and oh, it felt good to be home.Traveling obstacles will arise,no matter how well planned the trip is,but it’s how we go about them that shapes our journey.
