It was time to take off

So with all the flights, hotels and transfers in order it was time to go. The day we went to the airport was one of the most exciting days of my life. Jake and I couldn't wipe the smiles off our faces. This was our big adventure. We were going for almost a year and the next time we saw New Zealand was going to be this time next year and we'd be married!!!!! Very excited and a little scared we got to the airport checked in and made our way to the airport lounge for a much needed drink.

So it all started a few years ago (before the kids!) and I decided that it was now or never - I either get to see the world now or i'll be NZ bound forever with kids and other family commitments.

So with my then boyfriend (now husband Jake) in hand we headed down to our local Flight Centre store to meet my lovely travel agent Sarah. Sarah had booked many flights and holidays for us before but none like this trip.

Sarah had been with Flight Centre for a number of years and so had really got to know what I liked when I travelled. She even booked a couple of trips for me when I was a kid so she had seen me grow up and knew how important this round the world trip was for me.

Jake and I had quite a few visits to see Sarah before our itinerary was where we wanted it to be, but those visits were SO exciting. There is something about the anticipation that lengthens a holiday or trip I think!

One things we took the time to do was visit http://www.flightcentre.co.nz/story16259.asp which showed online videos of lots of different destinations. What this helped with is actually bring out trip to life. We'd seen lots of brochures and pictures but we couldn't go everywhere and we needed to decide and these online video's on the Flight Centre website helped us decide which destinations were 'musts' for us.

So about 4 months before we were due to leave we had our trip all planned and almost all paid for. The last four months were really hard. We had to focus on getting final things sorted like renting out our house, change of addresses, cancelling car insurance etc however although there was a lot to do it went SO slowely. Then came the day we were leaving - what an exciting day that was..... It was a Monday, Monday 21st January!
