all walks of life, anti niknomination

The idea is that, the guy who stands with a sign that reads "5 kids no job, need money for food ect" is really common here in South Africa. Most of these individuals are alcoholics and drug addicts which I'm sure is the case in most parts of the world. Anyhow, so went and found such a guy which we knew of in Roly's area of Cape Town, who from my judge of appearance, leather skin and glazed eyes as well as what we knew of him (victor). we swopped the signs as you see in the clip. It's riddled with irony, and truth and honesty. Stand there with a sign that says the truth and people will respond, even if it's an ugly truth, and in this case people responded generously and if someone is going to abuse there body with alcohol, I'll at least support someone who appreciated it. Who knows what he did with the money, surely not the usual and head on down to the bottle store or "shabeen" he was pissed enough as is and from what he's eyes told me, was truly grateful. Anyhow I hope that adds more justification.

Bare in mined its filmed off my phone.

All the best

Culturally rich.

The beautiful thing about filming in my country is how multicultural it is. Rich with beautiful stories with matching beautiful locations. Each and every day I'm inspired by new stories from current politics to comedy.

When I travel to film abroad I'm always out to seek equal content in other countries and am often wonderfully surprised to find more than I'd hope for, it's this rush that feuls my passion as a film maker. I have been in some very interesting situations from all over West-Africa to England and home (South Africa). I enjoy finding out the truth behind everything through story telling and for me my best medium is film.

My first trip abroad was to Accra Ghana, I was lucky enough to be asked to direct a small game show for a cellular mobile company. After a few months there and the final show we were prepping to come back home to Cape Town South Africa. I really enjoyed my time and travels all over Ghana and wasmy to keen on coming home. I had met sooo many interesting people while shooting, that was the beauty of it, where never knew who we were goIng to be filming. A random number would be generated off the grid and a red dot would pop up And tell is where in the whole of Ghana we'd be off to go film, and hand out prizes etc making people's day. And we came across ALL walks of life.

So they day before our departure I asked the CEO of the company of he'd let me stay for awhile to go back and revisit all the contestants and to to a mini doci and what they had done with their money, starting with the first contestant which is now already 6month prior.

It was one of the most enriching experiences of my life and I'd do it all again at a drop of a hat, it's the commitment and passion you can expect from me.

Kind Regards

A music vid I made awhile back.

Hi there, my name is Westley Durand, I'm a film maker based in Cape Town South Africa.
I have been working professionally as a director and Assistant Director for the last 10 years, through a crew agency called "radical crew" where I started as a PA. Feel free to inquire over my CV. http://www.radicalcrew.co.za/contact.aspx

Since I have been there I have been lucky enoug to film on all types of projects from commercials to full feature films and doci's. I have been lucky enough to film doci's and series in Ghana, Nigeria and Libya as well is all over my own culturally rich country.
However I have always had my dream set on Colombia. My uncle shoots for BBC and often gets to travel, my dream is to film to his standard one day. Colombia would mean me reaching that dream. I really love what I do and as an assistant director means I enjoy doing my prep and research, if you are to look at my CV you will see I have worked with some great and talented film makers who most of which had time to teach me a few tricks in which I'm iching to out into practice.

That clip I put up was my first little music video about 8 years ago almost, since then I have been able to work on some much bigger projects, from Black sails to Commercials, but I'm looking for something that would be a little more soul enriching for me.

Thank you for your time,
All the best
Westley Durand / Director and 1st Ad
0027763303676
