A 'place' I have visited

I actually didn't intend to participate in this contest, but after I returned from a trip to italy I decided to compile a few photographs I took during an afternoon on a beach in Sardinia. Before going to Italy I had jus finished my MA thesis about tourism and migration and how those two forms of human mobility interrelate, come across each other and how sometimes they even overlap (for example when thinking about retirement migration or work-and-travel experiences). After taking these pictures I talked to some of the men who were selling souvenirs and I learned that most of them where ('undocumented') migrants.

In a few weeks I will start my PhD and it is my aim to combine theory and critical thinking about society with a practical implementation. I will continue traveling and dealing with different forms of human mobility, therefore I wish to develop my artistic work beyond a 'mere touristic gaze' that only seeks to capture the exotic or beautiful 'Other', instead I want to produce thought provoking imagery that tells stories, discloses stereotypes and shakes up the status-quo.
My Scholarship entry - My Kind of Adventure

inspiration
Anne-we wanted to do a video from scratch & try to imitate the travel filmmaking experience: you arrive, put down your backpack, take out your camera and start walking around, explore, meet people and run into unexpected situations
record&goal
Both of us are prospective filmmakers and have worked on short (doc&image) films but nothing that pays the bills
Anne-I love filmmaking, but sometimes I forget to push the record button because I get so distracted by people, sights and touching things-so, fully concentrating on the experience instead of focus was great!
Thomas-both of us have travel and filming experience abroad. I have been filming in Ghana & India, Anne has lived in at least 5 different countries;) she jumps off airplanes in NZ and always finds a way to talk to people
Anne-everything we know about filmmaking is based on slashcam, Philip Bloom&the ML User Group (THANKS!) I think we could benefit a lot by working with a professional like Trent O’Donnell
Thomas-we are finishing our MA within the next months & strive to become more professional filmmakers,we genuinely want to do this professionally, despite the hard work of filmmaking&sleepless nights of traveling!
