Local Legend - Keith Fitzgerald

What Inspired my subject matter? Keith Fitzgerald represents an entire community's current struggle to protect their iconic suburb from a state government with very questionable motives.

My experience to date: I'm a Masters of Journalism student at the University of Melbourne and I've become very interested in news/travel videography. I've made about a half dozen short pieces. I wanted to use stills to create a sequential news and current affair narrative involving travel. In this case, around an iconic Melbourne neighbourhood threatened by a major new road tunnel development.

My ambition as a film-maker and what this scholarship would mean to me: I plan to move more fully towards videography to produce news/current affair narratives for television and web broadcast. In Australia there are programs like SBS Dateline and ABC Foreign Correspondent and NITV Living Black that I hope to intern with at the back end of 2014. The scholarship would definitely bolster my CV for those gigs.
