<title>Photos: My Travel Photography Scholarship 2013</title>
<description>As I traveled through Barrancas del Cobre I was driven by the mystery of it. Feeling an ache of not quite getting the essence of the place, but knowing that it was right there just waiting for me to see it; moving with the clouds, shining with the sun. I felt it was everywhere and yet something was missing every time I reviewed the images before going to sleep. As I photographed Ken and his surroundings I was driven by the same ache, feeling that I could capture his soul, that I could see into him and show his uniqueness, if only…
I feel that as a photographer one is endowed with a gift and a responsibility: to reveal a deeper truth than the surface shows. This is a from of prayer for me. I believe that the core of every prayer is to ask the divine to be revealed. Traveling with my camera I feel I just have to long deep enough, look intently enough, patiently enough and let it be revealed. As I look more deeply the world keeps opening. And every image I make shows me that there is always more to learn. To be granted this Scholarship with Jason would be an opportunity to expand in this search and learn how to live as a photographer and offer my work as a gift to all.

      <title>My Photo scholarship 2011 entry</title>
<description>We all rise to the same sun. We are all embraced by the same night. But there is a blessing in meeting the morning with passion and sense of purpose: the sun is brighter, the night whispers sweetness after a dedicated day to a loved creation. Through photography and writing I started discovering this passion seven years ago. This was when I took my first photograph and felt the surge of energy after creating something. I remember the exact moment of it. I was eighteen. I was in a ranch outside Mexico City, and my brother had just bought a camera. I took the picture of a chicken next to a tree.
Since that day my photographic journey has developed with a dreamlike quality; An SLR camera as a gift the next year, a well appreciated home exhibition of my first works. And suddenly I find myself aiming for the most exciting work I can imagine myself doing: travel photographer.
This dream job has given a new direction to my initially erratic exploration in photography. I discover that I’m most open and available to create when in a strange place, or when meeting new eyes, or lost in a forest. A sense of adventure nourishes my eyes and my soul like nothing else.
Day by day this passion expands and deepens. I meet it with responsibility. Thanking the skills that I've got and asking for the right guidance to make of this work a service to my fellows, the earth and all life in it.
When the sun sets nothing matters most than whether we have given the best of us or not. The best of me comes through photography and writing. Getting this scholarship would mean to shape a fire into a relentless dedication to life through photography.
