Photos: My Scholarship entry - University Sports

Toril Apelthun. Norwegian. UWTSD Swansea photojournalism student.

Photography has been a huge part of my life, ever since I got my first disposable camera about 15 years ago. Safe to say, I went through quite a few of those in my early years, as I had rabbits in my backyard. Since then me and photography have had a turbulent relationship, until I realised a few things a few years ago. Since then my relationship has consisted mostly of love and my development as a photographer has increased drastically. However, I feel that there is so much more to learn about the field and that I would be honoured to get the chance to do something like this.

When I'm places, I find myself searching for things to photograph: I see things that people normally overlook and I find myself starring at people, just because the light looks just right. I walk along in my own little bubble looking for just the right moment when I'm out photographing. I spend hours on a dirty sport arenas, sitting on the ground with my legs crossed to look for the perfect moment. I bring my camera everywhere, just in case I'll come across something interesting.

Yours sincerely,
Toril Apelthun

Photos: My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

I'm a 22 years old girl from the western coast of Norway who choose to try to live her dream about being a photographer. I therefor went to Swansea in Wales to study photojournalism there.

It probably sounds like a cliché, but I really enjoy travelling and my dream is to travel around the world with my camera and photograph the world and it's different cultures.

I think I should be chosen because I've got experiences with both landscape photography and photos of people. I would also say that I've got an advantage being Norwegian, since Danish is an official language at Greenland and it is quite similar to Norwegian. This is something that probably will make the communication easier.

Another reason to why I think I should be chosen is that I'm used to cold weather and to walk in the nature.
