Photos: My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

First of all, it brings together my biggest passions: traveling and photography. Travel photography is the real deal in the universe of photography for me and it has always been my dream job. I’m the guy who drags behind the group to take pictures but when I have that good picture in my camera, it is just for me; I get a satisfaction nothing else can give me.

More importantly, it is now or never for me. When I was working as a journalist for Time Out Istanbul magazine, I got (or created) the chance to interview Matthieu Paley and I realized, half passionate half sad, ‘traveler/photographer’ was what I should be. Yes, I had been traveling and taking pictures, but with friends yelling “Come on, let’s go!” instead of a guiding hand. I came close to my dream when I sold a story to Travel+Leisure Turkey about Mexico (words and photography by me), but I was not able to push for more given the circumstances at that time.

And your campaign made me realize that I had been tangled with work and started to forget about my passions. That is why I need it so much in this particular period of my life. This is the lift I need. I want to be a photographer, not ‘the guy who takes cool pictures’.
