Avoiding a damage to create miracles

At my junior year of film making studies, on my own risk, with the only equipment I had: Canon 600D with only
one lens: 18-55mm, an editing laptop and a sound recorder, I decided to go on a 3 months working and shooting
experience in MA, USA in order to make a documentary about the massive number of young Macedonian students
who leave the country every summer in pursuit for the "American dream". As a member of this social group, I
am deeply concerned about this is subject . While doing this documentary that is supposed to be my graduation
film, I learned a lot about myself as a film-maker: my impulsiveness for hunting the right moments, my
comfort in approaching different people and building a relationship with them from behind the camera, the
adrenaline, excitement and challenge coming from the unpredictable, and finally, creating a story from the
"chaos" of footage. So now, at my final year of studies, I know what I want to do further on as a film
maker: shoot incredible stories from around the world and "deliver" them to the public in the shape of
films. However, I am still an amateur on this subject. There are not many professional film-makers around me
who are doing this specific type of documentaries, so I really need the right mentor. I want to raise the
quality of my future traveling documentaries on the highest level I could get, so this is why this trip to
Columbia and mentor-ship by Brian Rapsey is a crucial component in my film-making education.
