My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

Bhutan (so called "Druk Yul" by Bhutanese people) has been the country on my wish list to visit. I finally managed to have a vacation and went there in July this year. It did not disappoint me at all. The country is beautiful and the people are very charming and friendly. As a Buddhist, Bhutan offered me spiritual moments everywhere that I stepped my foot on. I have also found Bhutan inspiring in terms of its innate self-sustainability. I hope this will not change over time by the stream of modern way of life. It had been indeed a good self-balance for me.

For photographers, Bhutan has a lot of materials for photography. However, I do not consider myself a photographer at all. I am a microbiologist, working for a food manufacturing company in Thailand, who loves taking photos. It feels great when I look at the world through the view finder and push a shutter button. I believe that there is always a beautiful side in everything we look at. We just have to find it. And that is the beauty of photography to me!

I realized that I loved photography a couple of years ago. Since then, I have seriously learnt from books and practiced as much as I could. After all these years, there are still plenty of things for me to learn about photography but one thing that have I learnt is every photo that I take always teaches me something.

I have always liked travelling. Today I can do two things that I like i.e. travelling and taking photos, at the same time. I have started telling stories about the world through photos. Many people like my photos. Someone ask me to teach them about basic shooting techniques. It makes me happy (and a little proud of myself) when I see smiles on someone's face when they look at their good photos taken by themselves.

The five photos that I posted here were taken in several parts of Bhutan. As you can see, there are still (big) rooms to improve but I know I am getting better and better. This is proved by the decreased number of the 'to-be-deleted-immediately' photos per trip. If I win the scholarship, it will open an opportunity to learn more shooting techniques, resulting in my improved photography skills. It will also enable me to keep on telling stories through "better" photos. I am committed to myself that I will 'give' what I will take from this experience to people who are interested in improving their photography skills.

Thank you for having this fantastic scholarship and congratulations for the one who wins!
