Photos: My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

A normal description will include name, age and nationality, as well as mentioning some activities one likes such as photography and making evident that we are all passionate about photography and equally mentioning one´s wish to become a Nat Geo photographer. All I can say about myself is that I enjoy simple things such as Tuna and Salmon sachimi, I once folded a thousand origami cranes to make a wish come true, enrolled myself into a visual arts degree at uni to become a film maker and ended up exploring my life through the lens of an old leica. I would love to be chosen simply because I want to have the opportunity to represent my country Colombia feeling very proud of my background, I grew up with a different perspective and I believe I can acquire the skills through this scholarship to express my world. I would love to learn and master all the necessary techniques and teachings from the best hand in travel photography and photojournalism. I believe I have the potential and the desire to learn to make this experience one of the best things that could happen in one`s life.

Photos: My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

I’ve been into photography since 2007 as I did some photography subjects as part of my degree in visual arts at the university. Since then I started a journey of discovery and exploration. After years of setting goals I am certain that all I dream about is to be a travel photographer and this is an opportunity to chase after my dreams and ambitions. I’d like to express how bad I want to win this contest and what makes me special; I grew up in 90’s Colombia, notorious for its crime and violence, life was usually a struggle for most people. Because of the environment I grew up in, I believe my perspective is different.
I’d like to be able to portray beauty and hope in places where conflict and uncertainly are part day-to-day life. I’d love to represent my country as I believe I can have the potential. Also, I am a bit of a wanderer and I've always had a curious and adventurous spirit. I am driven, I think differently and I’m always receptive challenges. Besides, I’m sure that I’ll put my heart and soul into this profession if I had the opportunity to be a National Geographic photographer, which is my ultimate dream. If given the chance, I hope to contribute back to my country by demonstrating how much Colombia has changed lately. I also want to experience field photography and immerse myself in different cultures, especially in Africa by gaining invaluable knowledge. Finally, one of my greatest desires is to be taught from one of the top photographer of Nat geo, Jason Edwards.
