My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

I am a photographer based in New York and Tel Aviv. My work explores the complexity of today's social dynamics and its interaction with its surrounding. I love calling myself a photographer who takes portraits of a city or of a place. While traveling, I am collecting pieces of information around me and then shoot segments and fragments of life, objects, buildings, food, people, colors, which all pile up to a beautiful city/location portrait.
These pictures are taken in Barcelona, August 2010. I found myself walking in the streets of Barcelona, holding my head up beaming from the beautiful architecture and sights around me. The majority of the shots were taken in a low angle, looking up at the objects I shoot. Gradually, I discovered the beauty of shooting up and\ the feeling of being under someone, something, unseen , a voyeur, a spy, like sitting under the boardwalk at the beach and watching people walk by, unaware.

I'm currently working as a teacher assistant at ICP in New York and would love to support Bahutan project in every way needed.

Best,
Sivan Askayo
