a few interesting travel sites

For all things wonderful about our world there is no beating National Geographic and Michael Palin writes wonderfully about all those place so many of us want to actually visit. For the inside scoop on any destination there are a few great resources around that are worth checking out: Bootsnall and Lonely Planet both have very active member communities where you can usually get an opinion on almost anything, including World Nomads!

Flickr is wonderfully impressive and only appears to be a photo sharing community, until you join and start to use it.

I haven't used CouchSurfing (yet) but as a traveller of many years I have slept on many couches (and floors) and been given all kinds of hospitality, often when it is least expected and unasked for. Now settled in Sydney I have used various other sites to offer free accommodation to people from time to time, including a Guardian Netjetter and a French family from Nante.

Elena's amazing Motorcyle Ride through Chernobyl ... this is a great example of form follows function. Super basic web design. Super compelling content. You just HAVE to read this!

We have been going to and buying from Thistle Hill vineyard for over a decade now. They are an organic winery in Mudgee, about 4 hours drive west of Sydney. If you have the time, it makes a great weekend. If you have the money, buy a few cases of their Pinot and hang onto it for a decade ... phenomenal!

I'm sure I'll think of others and this list will grow as I consider it.
