Time. It is your most precious asset.

For me personally, travel affords me the time and perspective to think about the challenges around us. Time that you rarely seem to get during the day to day life of operating a business.

Time.

Your time. Time as your most precious asset. It is one of the few things that you really can't buy more of.

So how how are you going to allocate the 100% of the time that you have?

I tried listing all of the things that I was involved in, thought I needed to do, could be doing or had been asked to do and then allocated percentages to each.

The total came to 170%.

So, what should I REALLY be doing? What could I delegate to someone else? What is my purpose and where can I add the most value?

Having spent years attracting some excellent people, my belief is that my role is to set expectation, give them authority to get it done, get out of the way and then hold them to account.

This is what I plan to be doing in 2012.

As part of this focus, unfortunately I won't be checking my email before 5pm each day and I'll only be responding to what is really important.

I don't mean to appear arrogant, rude or impolite, but email is intrusive and means you are working to someone else's agenda and priorities.

For anyone interested, the following things are how I have allocated my time in 2012:

1. Innovation pipeline (30%)

2. Mobile (20%)

3. International horizons (20%)

4. People & culture (10%)

5. Product Roadmaps (10%)

6. Footprints & Philanthropy (8%)

7. Day to day crap that can't be avoided (2%)
