"One day a poster caught my eye - it was printed by a youth organization announcing a project "Your Film about the War." It made me think "What could I do?" And when I saw on the news that the President of Russia had visited my uncle who was a veteran of the war, I realized that it was God's will that I should make a film about him. I took an amateur video camera, went to my uncle's place and shot the material which subsequently became the core of my film A Generation of Victors. One of the ideas of the film, apart from discussions about that nightmare war, strange as it may seem, is the idea that Russia teems with thinking people, that we have a sound intelligentsia and a genuine civil society which keeps growing and strengthening from year to year. "
