The Subterranean Jungle: Hang Son Ðoòng

Like so many, I’ve grown up marveling at the world shown through the photojournalism of National Geographic. An amateur photographer, I’m still learning to use my camera and what I can do with it but photographing new cultures and the natural world truly captures my focus. This year I was lucky enough to explore the recently discovered Hang Son Ðoòng Cave in Central Vietnam.
Underground, I struggled with limited light and how to capture meaningful photographs in a vast space unlike any other in the world. I learnt a lot about my camera and how to capture what I see but I still have so much to learn. It was a real challenge to select just five photos for my entry, I hope they tell a story of an adventure in an incredible untouched and fragile environment.
This scholarship and working with Jason Edwards would be an incredible opportunity to learn and improve my photography skills and in an amazing environment. Next year I hope to study Natural History Film Making. I want to capture the world and share stories that will inspire people to see the wonder around them and make an effort to preserve it.
