Let me tell you this: I was lucky enough that I had the opportunity to study for two months in the United States. I noticed how easy things were for students there and how some of them took the opportunity to learn for granted. When I met Fatima, the little girl in my documentary, I decided that her hardwork, and her determination to get an education, will not only be an inspiration for me, but also for all people of my age around the world.

Currently, I am learning to be a journalist at a nonprofit media production agency called Afghan voices.

I aspire to be a documentary maker not for money or fame, but to tell stories of the people who are forgotten. As a kid, I loved hearing my grandmother’s stories about people who were poor and suffering but their sense of honor and amibition always made them a hero. I believe these people do exist in the real world and this scholarship will equip me with skills needed to tell their stories. Through my documentaries, I want to highlight our common human bond with the rest of the world and that Afghans share the same human experience.
