My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

Hello, my name is Serena Kelly I currently live in Barrie Ontario, Canada where I attend Georgian College. I am in my first year of college for Environmental Technology which I plan to pair with Photojournalism. I’m not sure what I’d like to do once I graduate but I know that I am going to travel, try to make the world a better place and continue to inform and inspire people through my experiences. If awarded this amazing once in a life time learning experience, I hope to learn more about field photography, working with different cultures as well as landscapes. Africa is a magical place I have always dreamed of exploring and what better way than with Jason Edwards! Being a quick learner and craving adventure I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty. I would love and appreciate the opportunity to be mentored. The National Geographic magazine is something I grew up learning from and have great respect for. This life changing opportunity is something I happened to stumble upon, just eight days before the competition ends it was like a gift I was meant to see! I take pictures on almost a daily basis, whether it be landscapes, architecture or my family. During the summer my mother, younger brother and I went on vacation to South Hampton. We rented a cottage and brought our two dogs along for the adventure. Three days had passed and we hadn’t found a place for the dogs to get out and swim! Driving along the water front properties we found a path. This became the highlight of our vacation, seeing the smiles on our addition fury family members as we played on the beach for the whole day. Given this amazing opportunity I wouldn’t disappoint, I am a respectful and grateful person looking forward to the chance to learn and gain hands on experience. Thank-you so much for your time!
