Theres a little old lady outside my window walking around my courtyard with blue pants, a white shirt, glasses around her neck, a gray sweater, and the pace of a turtle. She's been there for too long. Hopefully she gets to where she's going before nightfall.

18 September, Friday

Uhh, I dont remember what I did during the day to be honest, I know I went to class. After that I might have slept. Friday night was good. Stayed up until about 4 just dickin' around the room.

19 September, Saturday

Had a really scary dream that I was on a conveyor belt about to be chopped into pieces. I woke up, and went to the store to get some food. I made noodles with zucchini, peppers, onions and cheese. hooray! That night i wrote a story about some dumb girl with eyelash problems.

16 September, Wednesday

DAY OFF! I slept, all day. All day I tell you. I woke up to eat, and sean made me some soup. Then I went back to bed. Seriously, that's ALL that happened today.

17 September, Thursday

Thursday was a busy day, most of it involved class, getting a sandwich that should have been eaten hot, going to immigration down town so I don't get thrown out of the country, drinking Mickey Finns and Bacardi, going to a night club called Angel Lane, it was 10e to get in, and the cab was rather expensive. I'm going to cut down on the partying a little. Not that I want to! It's just an expensive lifestyle. I really do like the dancing though, the music is kind of monotonous after a while, all the same songs, all the same poker faces and kanye fans, and being pushed into people as they get pushed into you, drunk girls in high heels stepping on your feet, big drunk guys with popped collars slapping my ass as I walk to the bathroom, and foreign men asking, no no, shouting, at me to find out where I'm from, but can't hear me regardless. Then I headed home and ate some celery and had raspberries.

It's so hard trying to remember what I did for three days.

13 September, Sunday

Jill's birthday party and cake fest in her kitchen with the plethora of spiders dangling above her head. We went to Trinity Rooms and danced our faces off, and old creepy guys kept coming over to me. Then me and Dan sang "What is Love" into each other's faces.

14 September, Monday

Uh, class at 11, but it was actually 12, so I got up early for no damn reason. I shuffled my way to class and sat there for two hours. Met a girl named Bianca who asked me if I was hispanic. Haha, seriously, she thought I was hispanic. She was so nice though. Walked home, thought about doing laundry but did lesser things instead.

15 September, Tuesday

Yesterday started with me getting up for class, going to class, sitting in class, leaving class to get a paper stamped, doing laundry because I swear if I didn't get it done I would have literally had to borrow someone's clothes or walk around in my party dress, which is abnormally short because I'm too tall for it. uhhh, so everyone got together in my apartment for drinks. Sean, Dan, and I walked a half hour to get to an off license, only to walk another half hour to a different one that had a bigger selection. Lauren gave me 20e to get her a bottle of rum. What do I know about getting rum? Close to nothing. But I took her money and kept it in my pocket. We got to the second off license which was supposedly near the mystical lodge that I'm still waiting to be taken to. I got a bottle of smirnoff lemon, only 4%. Dan got Jack and some weird red alcohol soda, and Sean got skittles.

We walked back under the impression that I left my jacket in the store, so I complained the entire way back. We took a short cut through this little dark path between two walls, essentially an alley, but not as dangerous. We passed a pub called Hurley's and it had a huge wooden cut out of a guy with a hurley on the wall. The pub was like, I dunno, green with a red door, and there was a guy standing in the doorway on the phone. Dan wanted to use the bathroom, but not if the guy was standing there. Nope, not if that guy was standing there.

We got back after sean's rant about how much of a bad flatmate I am because I didn't know his last name. Are these things really important to people anymore?

The living room had the usual suspects, Brian drinking orange juice and vodka, Matt falling over and kicking things in a carnivalesque fashion, Lauren two beers deep hanging out with a canadian. I can confidently say it was not a party, but a series of awkward and silly conversations with background music on an xbox, including big fish little fish cardboard box.

The night rolled on and everyone prompted Dan to sing, which was partly my fault, but mostly not because Dan's a singer, he's got to be able to sing for anyone, anywhere at anytime. Kinda like that scene in Superbad with Jimmy's brother, the guy, the guy with the beautiful voice, the guy I was telling you about. Like a bird.

So Dan managed to divert their attention long enough to get out of the proposition of singing Angels in front of a crowd of drunk irish boys, a girl who had 4 shots of jamaican rum, and a canadian. We all ended up singing a really good song together once everything had died down a little. And when I say died down, I mean after we managed to get matt to stop kicking chairs over, to stop ripping things off the wall, to stop throwing meat out of the window, to stop knocking bottles of liquor over, and to stop pretending to hit people with bottles of liquor. Bonnie Tyler's Total eclipse of the heart. Lauren and I did the girl parts and the boys did the 'Turn around's. Thanks to Duff and Alana, I knew all the words.

Everyone started going to bed, so I followed suit and didn't wake up today until 1.

September 12's Review

Pretty shitsy day it turned out to be. I bought a disgusting, rancid, horrible, vomitable candy bar from a polish shop in lim city. It was the most foul thing I've ever had the displeasure to try. It was what looked to be a hard sugar dough stick with what looked the brown cinnamon swirls striped throughout, i broke off a piece expecting a gooey pulling motion, but it slowly and crustily broke apart, with these jagged split ends on each side. The sheer texture of the bar was discomforting, but I decided to try it anyway since I had paid .97E for it. The first bite was comparable to sticking a dead foot in my mouth. I chewed it like someone had a large gun to my chin, speaking polish and saying, "Das right. Choo eet up." I wanted to throw up. Then I offered some to Dan.

Dan was highly reluctant as per the hideous faces I was making as I suffered through my piece. He was a man about it, from what I remember. We both agreed that neither of us wanted to eat it, so he suggested I give it to my flatmate. I could never give this bar to anyone. It'd be homocide via polish treats.

Later we wandered through the streets and got stopped by a man in a red car saying he was the police and that we, tourists, are not allowed to be in this particular part of the city. No problem.

We went into Dunnes and shopped around for a bit of food, I got a bag of bread that as Dan says, "Is gift wrapped." He's absolutely right.

By the way, on a previous note, dancing the macarena is apparently great practice for one who plays rugby, says some large eastern european man at the stables on a friday night.

Back to the story, so, we got out of Dunnes and went to look for the bus stop on William Street. It was a fairly easy find, but it seemed like forever since I was carrying a deliciously chilly jug of milk in my hand and a backpack full of ketchup, pasta sauce, ritz crackers and a set of bed sheets.

By the way, the sequel- I wanted to do laundry saturday but I couldn't get tokens from reception, which was the lamest thing in the world seeing as how I brought my entire pillowcase full of dirty crusty clothes all the way to the laundrette just to make an angry face and walk back to my apartment. ugh!

So Dan and I found le bus eirann and sat quietly for twenty minutes! We got back to the university and we went our separate ways since Dan had a creamy dairy mint treat to get into a freezer. There was no one else on campus when we got there, so being alone at perhaps 1830 didn't spook me in the least, seeing as I went for a walk at 630 am that morning, then I came home and made eggs in the dark. I got to my apartment section and saw four kids, ranging in ages from 13-19 hanging around in black wifebeaters, black sneakers, gelled spikey hair, freckles and necklaces with crosses resting on their pale hairless chests. The youngest was a red haired rascal who had no problem telling me his life story, jumpy and enthusiastic as ever. According to, someone locked all their bikes in the bike sheds. We have bike sheds? I guess so.

So the one boy with longer black hair and no shirt, ripped jeans and a bit of a belly on him, my guess is a 15 year old, told me about how his mom bought him this bike and someone stole it, I wasn't listening as intently as I should because the two 19 year olds were eyeing me up. They needed a key card to get into the bike sheds, and seeing as how they did not live here, they asked if they could use mine. They were decent at first, but rambunxious (uhh, yea) as balls five minutes into this ordeal. They key card didn't work in any of the three sheds we tried, so I told them I was going to put my groceries away. Now the story turns from mildly annoying to downright annoying. The kids kept asking for my phone number and what I was doing tonight and if I did this, and if I could do that, and where I lived and if I had any girl friends. Cute kids, huh? So then the 13 year old lady killer puts his entire body against mine, his arms awkwardly wrapped around my backpack full of delicious goodies, and his face in my face askin' for some kisses. The boys cheered him on, as boys do. It would have been really cool if I was 13, but I'm not. I'm 19, and it was absurd. Ohh, tainted love. So I told them I was going to get my friend's card, and I'd be back in 10 minutes.

I scuttled my butt out of there and started walking to Dan's village, an eternity's time by foot, and I got there and he came out, with a puffed chest and a vengeful look in his eye, ready to break skin and drink someone's blood.

We got back to my apartment and there was no one there. So Dan went home, and I went upstairs and cooked myself some chicken. Then I went to bed.

Friday Sept. 11, (or 11 September, if you're insisting on using European standards)

Friday was...hmm, I don't remember really other than waking up, getting a shower and kind of waltzing through the day to the slowest song in the world. I'm always so tired and achey. I keep getting hurt and falling asleep in class. And you know, for classes with more than 70 kids, I still feel like the module leader is looking directly at me, thinking, "I'm going to fail that girl if I see her tilt her head back and then jerk it forward and look to the left to see if anyone saw her." I almost got lost in one of the buildings. The room numbers are becoming less hard to understand, I had a class in S205 and the Schuman building is connected to the Kemmy building, which is the entrance I used, so I was in the KBG016 and stuff. I luckily found an american professor lady-An american!- in the building and she told me where to go. God bless Americans. After thaaaat I took a NAP! then..i got dressed to go out, but my flatmate sean was like - there's not going to be anyone out tonight, it's a friday, they all went home. So i was kinda disappointed that I got dressed to go nowhere. My hair looked divine.

Saturday, 12 Sept.

TODAY! I woke up really energetically to do some stuff that I needed to get done, but this did not include my laundry. Smelly crusty laundry.

Days 7, 8, 9, 10, 11

Day 7- Monday

I started classes, the rooms were pretty big. I think I went out to the stables that night to meet up with a little friend of mine. I found out that drunk irish guys are still able to pick up on my american accent, and they insist on asking what part im from, and i tell them, and they just smile and sway back and forth a bit.

Day 8- Tuesday

Tuesday morning i experienced the worst lapse of fatigue in my entire life. It sucked. Tuesday night my flatmates and their friends and I went to a night club called the Trinity rooms. I fell asleep on the wall. It was also harriet's last day here.

Day 9- Wednesday

Uhhhh...wednesday...I had three classes, and then me and dan went to the clubs and socs where a representative from all the things dan wanted to join were talking to me about this club instead of to dan, which annoyed me slightly because i didn't want to join these clubs, but it made me laugh because dan just had to watch.

Day 10- Thursday

I had a very thirsty thursday. Koppabergs and Rugby practice. I hurt my finger....reallly bad!

The day I fell out of a castle pt. 1

Due to popular query, I'll tell everyone about how I fell out of a castle.

Dan, Harriet and I went to look for my upcoming Monday classes. The campus is the largest I've ever been on, the buildings are widely confusing, the setup is spread so far apart that it takes fifteen minutes to walk from my apartment to the edge of anything, and it seems longer when it's cold as bears. On our way to my classes I found a path that led to somewhere good. We hopped on and walked for about an hour's time before we came to a split. It was a path through a forest, a very thick forest parallel to the River Shannon. The ground was complete mud and bugs hung suspended in swarms ready to fly into your eyes and in your mouth. We didn't know how long this path was, or where it would lead to, but I made everyone go forth, and they didn't seem to mind. So I put on my big hat with a big feather and led the way, although I was mostly standing in the middle of the two since most of the path was only wide enough for one person at a time. So I led the way through Harriet.

We're deep in the woods, it's still just light enough out to keep going, and we're almost at the point where I'm ready to turn around. We come to a metal gate and duck underneath to come to the edge of an opening. The narrow path began to stretch farther and we could barely see what was behind the bend. I turned to Harriet and said, "There should be like, a castle here or something."

"There's your castle there."

There was my castle.

Days 3, 4, 5, 6

Thursday:

Well, Thursday was an interesting day. I woke up early for no reason and went to my orientation at whatever time. It was abnormally boring, but in ways, rather useful. There were a lot of kids in there, the kind of kids who are on every campus around the world. The kind of quiet ones that know they're smarter than everyone else, but have exceptionally low social interaction with most people. Everywhere. So I sat through a few hours of being told how the school works, and then they gave us a social break. I don't like those kind of things, it makes people try to be more outgoing than usual, and then they come off as fake, in a way, but no one ever really remembers it anyway. Wow, that sounded kind of harsh.

We took a tour, the tour guide was above good looking, and I got stuck with the kid from north carolina. God, how I wish he would stop strapping his back pack straps around his waist when there's nothing heavy to carry in his bag. Then I had dinner with my friend Keelan, she's great. Then I have a pint of guinness in the bar, a very nice loungey leather bar. it didn't taste bad, but it didn't taste great, but I needed to try it. I had to!

So later that night I go home, and I get an unexpected visitor late into the night.

Friday:

I skip orientation because I woke up at 10:30, not that I wanted to go to begin with, but this is a good start to a great day. I meet up with my friend Harriet who lives in england, and it was really great to see her. We took a walk around the town and had dinner in the kilmurry hotel.

Saturday:

Harriet and I took the bus into limerick city to try to find me some waterproof shoes and a bit of a warmer jacket. No luck. We come home that night and I make cookies. The cookies were awful! They came as a powder mix in a box, kind of like cake, but the chips and stuff were already inside, and I just had to add butter and water. Not good stuff.

Sunday:

I fell out of a castle.

Day 2, Dan Arrives

Dan came this morning, roughly around whatever time he said when he told me. His phone didn't work so I had no idea he was around. We met up and went for a walk around the campus. Here's a list of things we did and saw:

1. I almost cornered him in a dark scary alley because I thought there was a way out, but there wasn't, only a brick wall.

2. We saw the "Chocolate Guy"- a statue in the middle of campus of a naked man who looks like he's made of chocolate.

3. Got stopped by some ladies asking us to join a bank on campus

4. Saw a guy selling hotdogs, Dan stopped for one, but he found out he had to open a bank account first.

5. Climbed some stairs in the middle of a field

6. Went through a revolving door, and immediately went through it again

7. Went to a nice little restaurant and ate lasagna and had a hard time deciding on what to do with our dishes

8. Took naps

The day was pretty eventful, and today is the first part of orientation, starting at 850.

The food here is okay, but I don't eat enough of it. I'm hungry 60% of the time, and the only thing I can get my hands on easily are chocolate bars and shrimp flavored chips. I need to do some serious shopping, I need eggs and bread and pasta. and snacks. lots of healthy snacks.

My flat mates are all pretty decent people! Well, I need to get in the shower and eat some more soggy flakes.

Day 1, Dijon

Yesterday was my first day here, and um, it was interesting, to say the least. The campus is extremely large and you have to go through buildings and bridges and secret paths in the middle of a forest to get anywhere. It's lovely though, I can hear cows outside sometimes, and the crows here are as big as chickens and they sit on the roof, with the gray heron looking things and just chill out. I live in the Robin building of Thomond (pronounced Tommand, by the locals) and it's pretty nice except it's farther away from stuff, but really, everything is far from everthing.

So, I got here and I didn't sleep. I unpacked and went to go explore the world. I was hungry, so I tried to find a place to eat. I saw kids walking into a little room, so like the lemming I am, I followed. It was a nice and cozy little cafe where they served hot and cold food. There was no menu, you pretty much went up there and looked at what you wanted and asked for it. I looked at the selection and didn't know what anything was. I asked for a chicken sandwich because I saw pieces of chicken breast in a tray thing, but no, the lady gives me chicken slices, on white bread. I don't like mayonnaise, so I asked for mustard and everyone around me stopped what they were doing and stared at me. "Mustard is it?"

"Yeah...mustard"

"We've only got eh, Dijon. Is that all right?"

"Mmm, yea, I think."

So, she slabs on this dijon and asks me what else I want, I didn't understand most of what was in my selection, but I noticed cheese. And I didn't want to be that guy who has the server list everything on the menu to say, "No, I don't want any of those" SO I TOOK THE CHEESE. It was shredded cheese, and I have less hatred toward shredded than sliced.

Then she cut the sandwich into four triangles!

I wandered around some more and made my way into a market looking place, with fresh fruit stands and things. I also walked around a bookstore, walked into one building took the stairs up, and then walked back down and out, and then I picked up some little groceries at a Spar. I need to do real shopping though, and I need to get money from an ATM.

Also, a bee flew into my room because the windows don't have screens (blockers, as per local term) So I hid in the hallway til he found his way out.

My place is really nice though, my own room with my own bathroom. The kitchen is lovely as well, they had food when I got here waiting on the table, and in the cabinets...and the fridge...and the cupboard. Brilliant.

My roommates thus far are two irish lads and a girl from new york. Really great people. Brian, Sean and Lauren. Sean's supposed to show me around eventually, and take me to limerick city to a bar.
