      <title>Photos: My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited</title>
<description>I am a teacher in my hometown (Bogotá, Colombia), my subject is social studies. I recently finishes my undergraduate studies on anthropology. For the past 5 years I have been working on my photography skills, traveling through my country and other places.

I believe I will be perfect for this assignment, because it combines my passion with photography (and the opportunity to improve my skills in the field) with my passion of traveling and discovering new cultures (that´s why I choose to study anthropology).

This photos show the Festival of Lights (festival de las luces) celebrated in Latin america. The photos where taken in a small town called Villa de Leyva (three hour drive from Bogotá)</description>

      <title>Photos: My Photo scholarship 2011 entry</title>
<description>My name is Santiago Florez I’m a Colombian anthropologist who loves to travel. As a hobby I approached photography in my first year of college and since then it has grown into a passion.

This set of photos came to be in a really surprising situation. For the first time in 4 years my family took a trip together celebrating that my little brother has just finished high school. For us as Colombians, Spain has always been mandatory destination (in Latin America we refer to Spain as the mother land), for us is a visit to our colonial roots and part of our history.

During our trip we could see the economic recession was affecting almost everything in Spain and how young people were protesting their unconformity with their government and society.

These set of photos come from a visit to Barcelona a city packed with tourist but that shows the problems of the last economic recessions and youth protests.

Protest and Recession is the name of this set of photos. It’s inspired in the mood that prevailed during the summer in the news across Europe and the world. For me these photos show the human side of the economic downturn on how individuals react in different ways to a situation that affects the whole of society.

      <title>My Photo scholarship 2010 entry</title>
<description>I’m Santiago Florez currently I’m a student of anthropology and general arts in la Universidad de Los Andes in Bogota Colombia. I have been an amateur photographer for almost two years. I have done photography in my home country and during my traveling (through Colombia and the States). These photos were taken in a trip I took this summer through England. My pictures show the modern day living in England as place full of contradictions where you can find from modern art to traditional weaving and other traditions. Where the history is alive through tourism and school field trips and mixes with the problems of every day life.
I want to be able to participate in the world nomad’s scholarship because it offers a great opportunity to develop my photography with traveling experience and great mentoring. It offers the opportunity to travel to an amazing and unknown place and the opportunity to take photos of people and places that are facing a great change in their lives, where traditional is mixing with contemporary in new and unique expressions of culture.

I’m egger to learn organized and hard working and I hope that you will see this through my photos and considered me as a great choice for the scholarship.
