My Scholarship entry - A local encounter that changed my life

Happiness really lies in your head. In my busy days, I love travelling! So what even if it's just my daily walk to the office. This thought process indeed changed my perspective about life. So, here's a poem I penned down about my travel to office everyday:

Footsteps

The gate clinks and I step out
Warm but soothing sun shines on my still wet hair
She stands at the door till I disappear
From the corner of her eyes

Then I turn to find this man
The driver for the bus
That takes the kids to school
He eats in peace among the swings
Deserted now, but full of life
When the kids break free along with dusk
He eats with peace and love
To take him through the dreary day

Then I turn to a shady lane
Full of trees but on one side
The traffic snarls with tiny strides
The man in white, a whistle blows
The four wheeled monsters screech and stall

Then I turn to the other side
Treeless, sad and spilling dust
On to my shoes it must

Then I turn to life again
The road goes green
With trees it sheens
Short and stout, he slowly comes out
A cap he wears, only eyes appear
He guards the monsters in their cocoon
He waves a hi and I gently reply

Then I turn to bigger things
The ship and house that shines light
Are upside down in the morning light
Now I see a swarm of crowd
In this fresh morning
I wonder why the worn out faces
Their feet as hard as leather soles
The shoeless feet, but fearless steps
Some with axes, others with boxes
Still others spewing tobacco ashes

Then I turn to glitzy buildings
Shiny gadgets ringing singing
A world, a bag, each one carries
Like my own, they walk in haste

Then I turn to this machine
It takes me to a world, a screen.
