My two weeks in Sydney

17th Jan - 31st Jan

Day 1

So moved to sydney Base Hostel today, this hostel is so much better than the rubbish one in Coogee. Nice beds, A/C, big kitchen, more showers, internet and tv room.

Day 2

Had to go sort out my Medicare card as Ozintro didn't do it. Also went to TAW to start my job finding, applied for 6 jobs.

Day 3

Walked around the Sydney Opera House and Circular Quay, amazing day out in the sun.

Day 4

Sydney Wildlife World and Australian National Maritime Museum today. A good day great pictures as well. Wish i could have taken in all the info from the display about the childern that had been sent to oz. Never know that happened.

Day 5

Today was a really long walk to the Powerhouse Museum with some really nice frozen Coke, never knew they made it, its amazing. Learnt a lot and saw even more.

Day 6 and Day 7

Had a few days off to chill out and sleep but have booked up for my trip to Canberra, Melbourne, Adelaide and Alice Springs. Hostel for Canberra booked.

Day 8

Amazing day in the Hyde Park Barracks. Learnt all about the convicts that came to Australia and where and how they lived. Also found out that there was a William Hibberd that came here and want to find out if i have family from him or not.

Day 9

Another day around the Circular Quay area, saw a few different places but nothing to interesting.

Day 10

Australia Day today but also the day i leave Base Hostel and move to Jackaroo Hostel in the Kings Cross area of Sydney. Hostel is really nice but the area is bad. Only 5 nights to go till i leave Sydney. Once i had checked in i went to Darling Harbour to watch the Australia Day goings on. The high light was the firework display which went on for half an hour. Set to music and the best i have ever seen.

Day 11

First stop this morning was the Justice and Police Museum, Sydney had some bad police in the 1950 till 1980s naughty men killing each other and running the city with a iron fist. The NSW Governrment House was ok but not open to look around, the gardens were nice but very strange to be able to just walk around the gardens with no police or gaurds noone around the gate was wide open and people just sat on the lawns eating there lunch, all this with the Governor of NSW in the house.

Day 12

Went back to Coogee to collect the memory stick I left in the Ozintro office.

Day 13

Not much to report went out did a bit of shopping, walked around the streets, nice calm day had.

Day 14

Taronga Zoo is so big but being on a hill is a bit of a work out in the middle of summer. Lots of things to see. Very tired, am going to sleep well tonight.

Day 15

The big move to Canberra.

Day 1

After being picked up from the airport and being dropped off at the hostel I was given a room and meet even more of the people i had spoke to on facebook. At noon we were picked up and taken in to sydney for a walk thought the gardens and a jet boot ride. Was in all a good day.

Day 2

Today is the day that i open my back account and get a Medicare Card (nhs for brits in oz). Followered this by going to the aquarium very good pictures of sharks and things.

Day 3

Learn to surf day today, Not my thing at all. Was good to have a go but just not my thing at all.

Day 4

Today was travel and work talk followered by trip to Bondi and walk back to Coogee for BBQ and Volleyball. Good day.

Day 5

I was going to the Blue Mountains but due to bad ears, head and cough i gave it a miss.

Day 6

Nothing to do today but night of the Party Bus, It was ok but not the best thing, 5 bars, 5 free drinks but only about 20 mins in each bar with lots of driving around in a bus with load music and flashing lights. Waste of a night.

Day 7

Again nothing all day so booked a hostel for next week in centre of Sydney (Base Backpackers Hostel). Evening was the buffet at the Sydney Tower which is the highest restaurant.

Saturday

Hi all, as arranged i met with 14 others who were flying out around the same time at Heathrow. Few drinks down and we were off to check in and sit down and wait. With all the waiting done we were on to the plane and leaving UK. Food was good on Thai Airways! Didnt get much sleep on the frist flight which was 10 hours to Bangkok.

9th Jan Sunday

4 hours in the airport then we are on to the second plane for 9 hours to Sydney. Much better flight as i got some sleep on this one.

10th Jan Monday

Landed and was collected by Bec and taken to the Hostel.

Well the day is here. Last view of Devizes for the last time in a least a year. Bit of food and off i go.

Last night in UK

Well its midnight and this is the last night in the UK, tomorrow afternoon I head off to the airport to wait for the big metal tube which is taking me to OZ. Have packed 3 times in total. 2 KG under the limit so thats good. So many of the people i am meeting up with in Sydney have arrived and i want to leave right now. O well only another 16 hours till the airport and 21 hours till the plane. Soon fly by.

Hi all who may read this, Its 4 days till xmas 2010 and only 18 days (8th Jan 2011) till i get on a plane to leave England for what may be a long time. Think I have everything i need to take with me, just need to pack it all now.

I am going to do my best to remember to update this as much as possible, but don't hold it against me if i don't.
