Photos: My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

My name is Bryan Yong.
I am a halal food blogger, entrepreneur, traveller and an amateur photographer who seeks to tell a story through pictures. I have been taking pictures for 1 year now and love every moment of it

I am overall a thinker, an opposite of a perfectionist, slightly ambivert and optimistic in general.

My favourite photographers are Steve McCurry, Alfred Stieglitz and Henri Cartier-Bresson.

Life is short and memories fade away but pictures last forever. I started photography because of this reasoning.

I aspire to be part of National Geographic team

I am 23 years old. I am currently living in Malaysia.

Photos: My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Funny thing is my participation in photography was inspired by Maria Sharapova. I persuaded my mom to get me a Canon PowerShot after I saw her on the big screen advertising. ‘Make every shot a Power Shot’. Ever since then, I am hooked. I like taking pictures of people when they are at their natural best and creating unique perspectives of the subjects that we look at every day. Both allow me to enjoy the process of visualizing, planning, setting up, creating, post processing until the final image, thoroughly. However, I still lack the thorough understanding on lighting and its effects on my subjects. I deserve World Nomad's scholarship because I can identify both my weakness and strength. I want to improve. I've volunteered for photography gigs, bought and read books I could afford with the little money I have, DIY-ed my own studio with common items. My passion to tell stories through pictures, my love for travel and unique perspectives will greatly benefit from this scholarship. To win this scholarship will be my greatest achievement as an amateur photographer. I will use everything that I learn from this scholarship to pursue my ambition to be a National Geographic photographer.
