In 3 years, I undertook fieldwork in rural Indonesia and parts of Australia I would never have seen otherwise. Travel ignited the need to create art forms which captured the shapes, colours and timeless creations of all environments and could inspire my quest for a sustainable natural world. I found that by knowing more about my subject, I was able to sustain greater meaning within each photograph. In my final year of study, I conducted research in Panpatti, a village in the remote south of Bangladesh. Living among such strong people inspired me to capture them in a way so that others could understand what life is like in a delta struck by floods, cyclones and rising tides every year. When I returned home, I realized my photos were of a place that was unlikely to exist in the next few decades due to climate change. Here, I found the real connection between science and art. My photography not only shares a person’s story or a physical object. It conserves a unique time and disappearing space.
