My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

I am a 29 year old Irish graphic designer from the west of Ireland, based in Dublin. I've had an interest in photography since I was very young, as I watched my father, an amateur photographer, a take beautiful portraits of my siblings. I liked nothing better than to pore over old family photos going back over the generations, and imagine what the people in them were like; the stern and haughty ones portrayed in he black and white, over-exposed images from the turn of the century, to the care-free polaroid snaps of 1970's relatives, sporting bell-bottom flares and long hair. I take photos because I have been blessed with a very short memory. Photographs, whether printed or on screen, have the capacity to instantly transport me back to a time and a place, and recall a happening, its sounds, smells and feel, and it is for this reason that I love photographs. I'm also insanely jealous of other photographers work; I envy their colours, clarity, composition and stories. I want to create my own. I believe I have everything to learn about taking photos.
