AAE BOUBON HOUSE HOSTEL, New Orleans

First off, I love how this hostel smell. Nothing of that old and damp smell in the lobby, rooms and toilet. There are air fresheners everywhere. Love it!

Secondly, Staff was very helpful and accommodating. Ty was nice, Ryan was nicer, Shane was the best! But it's Ryan who smiles a lot :)

Third, there's lots of free food in the fridge! Arrived late one night, and hungry. Found Ramen noodles in the kitchen and eggs in the fridge. I had instant dinner! Kitchen's equipped with every possible utensil and condiments. Freshly made pancakes every morning. Lots of cereal choices. Orange juice by the gallon, milk... Free!

There's a beer fridge at the patio. You can stock on booze for the nightly socials with other hostellers.

It's a short walk to Walmart- if you need to get supplies or if you're craving for something from the grocery. I also went for a walk, one time, from the French Quarter.

It's in a quiet street. and very Safe.

The best!

The Gift and Pleasure of Things Familiar

03 Jan 11

Just got home from Bora to welcome 2011. It's my third "New Year" at The Island and as always, i had a great time- thanks mainly to verygoodfriend Bhing Alipante.

And so, the weary body (mainly from the big waves that hit the RoRo) was forced to plunge (stomach down) on the dusty and debri-filled (firecrackers. left my window open the whole time i was out) bed.

Breathed a sigh of satisfaction. I'm at familiar territory, again.

Is it serendepity to come across this writing on a 1983 Reader's Digest Points to Ponder section? It is exactly my present state of well-being, hence the urge to document it.

William Houseman:

One of the most satisfying aspects of going home derives from rediscovering the joys of familiarity. There is the old reassuring bed; therapeutically obsolete though it be, it's your bed. The tick of the clock, the slam of the door, the creak of the steps- they, too, may be among your personally prized associations. Even the rising sun may be a personal possession; if the sunlight enters a certain window you remember its entering, then it is where it is supposed to enter. By clear inference, the sun therefore rises where it's supposed to. And for the best of all reasons: you're at home.

:)
