A Ramadan day in a Dallas mosque

My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

Worldwide | Wednesday, October 19, 2011 | flickr photos

Ramadan is the most important month for Muslims. And like the rest of the world, devoted Muslims here in Dallas, Texas also look forward to observe the month with full devotion and concentration.

These particular pictures were taken on a very random day of the last Ramadan, at the Dallas Central Mosque. The time span for the 5 photos was less than an hour, which kind of feels "unchanged", given how devoted these people were with their recitals of the Quran. The overwhelming Texas heat of August wouldn't shake them a bit!

I, Rafiul Alam - or mostly known as Rafi - am a student at the University of Texas at Arlington. I dream to become an architect, but photography eludes me almost at the same level! In fact, taking photos in a "different angle" had been my "issue" since I can remember. Friends or relatives would hardly let me take their pictures on parties etc. just because I wasn't traditional. Later I started with messing up both with traditional and my own perspectives - and since then I believed more into this field of art.

It had been around a year now I have this Canon Rebel DSLR camera. Everyday I'm learning something new from it. Yet, I believe I'm still far away from "there"! And that's why I'd like to take up every opportunity I get to sink more into photography!
