My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

From the airplane I like to see small lost villages within the folds of the Andes. I like the fat rain drops to soak me as I ride my motorcycle through some Amazonian town. In these moments, I reaffirm my belief: life is too short to notice and give notice to all of the fascinating things of our nature and cultures. Because of this, every time I get a chance, I move around, I study languages like Quechua, I take photos of everything. Every once in a while I get a bad anguish of not knowing if there will be time enough to sit down and write. I am a writer. For the last five years I have been traveling around my country, Peru, and writing stories for a newspaper of the capital, Lima. In many occasions I made the pictures by myself and they were published along with my writing. I think I am good at photos. Once I asked the Photo Editor of the newspaper to hire me. He said he would, but he couldn't because I did not have formal studies on Photography. This year I quit. I came to the United States to enroll a M.A. in Spanish. I am 28 years old and working on redefine my way to what I am passionate about. Today I found your announcement with this possibility that sounded magical.

Photos: QoyllurRitt'i

Thousands of Indians and mestizos of the southern Andes of Peru pilgrimage to one of the Apus (gods) most important in their worldview: the snowy mountain Qolke Punku (15,500 feet), which also houses the Catholic Lord Ritt'i Qoyllur. Pure religious syncretism.
